SPACEONSPACE Magazine is an independent, print publication about land, power and art.
The theme for the first issue is DISRUPT. 2020 has been a year of disruption across the globe. Lives have been drastically altered in the face of pandemic uncertainty, political division and racial tension. We look at this moment by analyzing history. Yesenia Navarrete Hunter, Estella Habal and Badir McCleary unpack three neighborhoods in the United States that underwent immense disruption in the 60s and 70s, and how these events had a rippling effect that continues today. We think of disruption through the lens of hope and healing. Reimagining worlds is something SPACEONSPACE does best. Sheila Quintana, an old friend and activist, sat down with Mamas from across the United States to unpack the effects of this past year. Included in this issue are work from artists around the world processing 2020, as well as, two artist interviews (with Lucy H. West and Kristina Sheufelt) on meditation, performance and the changing planet.
