A-POC MAKING: ISSEY MIYAKE & DAI FUJIWARA by Vitra Design Museum Berlin with Miyake Design Studio
Forever inspired by the wild brain of Issey Miyake and his Design Studio, a place where ideas are always Queen. This exhibition catalogue for “A-POC MAKING” is a behind the scenes look at Miyake and Fujiwara's A–POC (A Piece of Clothing) Queen Textile, an innovative outfitting system that produces self–tailored clothing through mass production. An industrial weaving machine is preprogrammed to spin an enormous, continuous tube of fabric that the customer can cut a piece out of, and customize as they see fit. The result is a puzzle of monochromatic articles of clothing that leaves behind virtually no wasted material. By making the wearer the ultimate designer, Miyake and Fujiwara’s system invented a new, sustainable textile technology that transcends ephemeral fashion trends.
