ANTARCTICA by Eliot Porter
Eliot Porter's beautiful photo book of Antarctica inspired me to Trek to the South Pole three years ago. I found this book in a vintage bookstore in outback Australia, near the town of Forbes, New South Wales. It was one of the hottest days of the year when the sun was scorching — while seeing this beautiful book about the coldest place on Earth. Originally printed in 1978, ANTARCTICA describes the doctor Porter's lively adventure, including his injury at the Russian base and heroic depictions of exploration across the white desert. He raises questions about global weather and potential changes in sea level. An interesting read considering it was written over 40 years ago.
