Page 94, BRANCUSI PHOTOGRAPHE.
My first proper job in New York was the Creative Director of Assouline, the French Agency and Publisher. My boss, the very talented Prosper Assouline, asked me to help on a repositioning for @zenithwatches. He told me that he was inspired by Brâncuși and wanted to begin shooting the brand in that way. I nodded my head in agreement, but I really had no idea who Brâncuși was, since I had never studied art history. I ran across town and found a Brâncuși book, and read it from cover to cover. I then understood that Constantin Brâncuși is considered the Pioneer of Modernism and the Patriarch of Modern Sculpture — arguably the most influential sculptor of the 20th century. I've fallen in love with Brâncuși in the twenty years since, but I can never see one of his sculptures or photographs and not think of a watch hanging from it.
