HORST: HIS WORK AND HIS WORLD by Valentine Lawford.
I lusted after the Halston House in Olympic Towers (photographed here by Horst for French Vogue) for years. It was the epitome of New York seduction for me. I'd heard the stories of the wild parties thrown in the 70s by the legendary fashion designer (he was behind Jackie O's famous pillbox hat), attended by Liza Minelli and Andy Warhol. Every detail thrilled me — the windows overlooking 5th Avenue, the lucite handrails, the Rigaud candles burning and the orchids everywhere — a place designed for entertaining, and an early inspiration for @flamingo_estate. When the apartment finally came up for rent, I immediately threw my hat in the ring and much to my surprise, my application was accepted. But then I read the fine print: No dogs. I had to choose between my New York dreams and my @freewayanddaylesford. Needless to say, the dogs won.
