SWISSAIR SOUVENIRS: THE SWISSAIR PHOTO ARCHIVE (VOLUME 2)
For decades, Swissair, Switzerland's former national airline, was an icon of international air travel and design, until its sudden closure in 2001. Now, what we have left (besides our memories) are these vast photographic archives, now held at the ETH-Bibliothek in Zürich. Many of these images, taken to document the airline's day-to-day operations, for marketing purposes and internal staff training, are insanely color-rich, narrative-driven and surreal, almost like legendary film stills. Take this beauty, a photograph of Swissair staff practicing an emergency evacuation on Lake Zurich, 1974. A cinematic marvel.
